This immersive two-day gouache painting workshop focuses on using gouache as a fast, expressive, and versatile painting medium for both studio work and plein-air painting. Participants will learn how to simplify complex scenes, control value and color, and develop confident brushwork while working from direct observation.
The workshop will be held primarily in studio, with outdoor plein-air painting sessions if weather permits, allowing students to apply techniques immediately in a real-world setting.
This class is suitable for beginner to intermediate painters, as well as experienced artists who want to loosen up, improve color harmony, and gain confidence working quickly.

These are typically Plein Air themed painting events led by experienced Chestnut-member artists who volunteer their time. Each year, we offer a variety of themes to choose from, including: Plein Air 101, demonstrations by some of your favorite artists, focus on a particular subject matter (water, trees, sky, composition), marketing and selling your work, and more!
Non-Chestnut members from the community may register and pay on our website but do not qualify for the significant member discount. Sign-up is offered in advance to members and limitations on the number of participants results in very few slots being open after the membership-registration window.
